The Devil’s River is one of those places words or pictures cannot truly describe. Millions of rough, thorny, privately owned acres have protected this river from major development and public access. It remains almost exactly as it was 10,000 years ago. The amount of native american rock art, cave paintings and arrowheads outnumber the signs of modern civilization. The water clarity is closer to the Bahamas than a Texas river. Fishing is almost always done by sight, it is a very visual experience. Trophy smallmouth and largemouth bass are the target for fly anglers. These fish must be approached with caution and stealth not required for bass in other places. It is a hunt, that when done correctly produces the most exciting, interesting and rewarding freshwater fly fishing action in the Lone Star State. We use private ranches for lodging and access, providing our guests a chance to experience this river in an exclusive, comfortable way. We are the only state licensed outfitters with useable private access and lodging. We do not set up and break down campsites daily, or make our guests undergo a 3 day trip filled with dragging overloaded boats full of gear and wasting hours navigating miles of “in-between” water. Multiple private access points keep us in the best areas up and down the river without the logistics of floating to them. This creates more options than any guide service offers. Getting around in this country requires decent physical condition, these trips are not for everyone. The fishing itself also requires fly casting experience. Longer accurate casts are necessary because of water clarity, but the results can be amazing. These trips take some planning, please call for details and booking.
