Water conditions were great this year on the Guadalupe River. Healthy flows most of the season kept fishing very consistent. Longer floats and more moving water gave everyone a chance to spread out a little more. The browns were an nice addition to the fishery. We will see how that population progresses. Fly fishing season on the Guadalupe River is from around Thanksgiving through April (95 degree temps). Call or email to book a guide on the Guad!

Trout fishing on the Guadalupe has been great. Muddy high water started the fishing season a little slow. The water has cleared and fishing is great, lots of successful days recently. Good bug activity and solid feeding behavior from the fish. They seem to be spread out and wade fishing pressure is less than average due to tough wading conditions. We have been finding fish in all sorts of new spots and some right where they always are. Action has been consistent throughout the day, 20-40+ fish days have been common. This season should continue to be great! Bass fishing on the Lower Colorado has been good on warm days. There have been a few winter days that have been really good, and some not so much. When its on, its on. Still the best time of year to catch the biggest largemouth. Winter feeding habits make the larger fish more opportunistic due to lack of available food. This makes a smart fish more likely to eat a fly.

Fished in Port O'Connor yesterday, it was excellent. Less than ideal condidtions, but the fishing was very consistent. We found lots of redfish in shallow water. Despite the clouds, visibility was surprisingly good. Clean water made the fish easy to see and they were active. One of the best cloudy days I've ever had on the Texas coast. Plenty of small pods, tails and cruisers. Can't ask for much more in Decemeber. Also had a day in October with Kevin Townsend where we found hundreds of slashing and feeding tarpon in the gulf. Jumped some huge fish and stayed on them almost all day. From the first spot we pulled up on, there were active fish on the surface. Even found some schools of bull reds that were not very smart. We have some incredible stuff here in Texas!

Water conditions in the Hill Country this fall have been pretty crazy. Major rains have brought high water and floods several times. Property damage was significant in some areas, but lakes upstream have are at a much healthier level. The Colorado has been flushed clean of grass and silt, the river bed is fine gravel and sand. The fishing is always good when it clears after floods. We were able to find some great days of fishing inbetween the poor water conditions, but a lot of days were canceled due to high muddy water. Things look much better long term for our rivers. The Guadalupe should be at a higher level this year, Canyon Lake has been at full pool several times since this summer! Should make trout fishing more interesting. Some things have changed on the Lower Colorado, but most remain the same. Great average size and lots of action with the right weather and water. This should be a great winter for fly fishing in the Hill Country.

Back in Austin from another great summer in Wyoming. The North Platte was excellent. The dry fly fishing in September was unbelievable. Large pods of nice fish were up most mornings feeding nonstop. Very exciting. Water was a little weird, early season rains and thunderstorms almost every day. Full lakes along the river system, one downstream that reached flood stage limited options for water distribution. Made our summer flows a little lower than average. Fishing was far from average, great numbers and size all year! This place is loaded with quality Rainbows. A couple huge browns this year too! A very close call for The North Platte Lodge involving an out of control brush fire and 35 mph winds. Local landowners and shop staff fought the fire along with Natrona County FD and kept the lodge alive. Very lucky to hold it off!!! Couldn't have saved it without quick help from the local community with heavy equipment and water tanks. Happy to be back in Texas for the fall season, looking forward to some bassin'!

Spring season on the Colorado River was excellent. There was muddy water throughout most of the river system, but we were able to find creeks, and certain zones that had great clarity and some awesome sight fishing for Largemouth and Guadalupe Bass . Surface patterns and poppers were the most productive flies. Lots of fish landed in the 4-7 lb range and great average numbers on almost every day. Post spawn feeding activity was hot! The Devils River has suffered from the drought, but the fishing was still very good. We had great trips out there with some great groups. Rain is gonna come this year, we are all keeping our fingers crossed that the lakes will finally fill and the water situation will stabilize. Headed back to Wyoming for the summer to guide for The Reef Fly Shop and The North Platte Lodge. A top notch guide service and lodge with world class fishing. Call for more info on the best Rainbow Trout fishery in the lower 48. It is amazing up there. Will return to Texas in October.

Trout fishing on the Guadalupe is winding down, and we had a great season! Lots of fish and pretty mild temps compared to last year. Fishing was very consistent this year for us. Recreational fisherman and other guides seemed to have success this year as well, with some popular new fly patterns being the similarity. Average fish were around 16" and healthy. As the spring weather warms up, bass fishing on the Colorado River will start to heat up. Tubing crowds will take over the Guadalupe, and the warm water will slow trout fishing down. In these water conditions, a large majority of the rainbows will die by summer. The fish lucky enough to find deep cold water will survive the summer, but can be much tougher to catch than they are in the winter. As the grass starts to grow back in on the Colorado River, topwater fishing starts to be very productive. Frogs, lizards, snakes and other terrestrials will be more active and the bass will be looking for similar meals. The best time of year for big fish and surface action is right around the corner!

Fishing has remained very consistent on the Guadalupe River. Trout Unlimited has completed their 3rd and final stocking of the year. The river is filled with healthy 14-18" average fish. Warmer weather will bring more bugs and hatches and fishing should get even better. Water levels are low area wide. This has been a better year for moisture in the Hill Country, but we still need more ground soaking rain. Canyon Lake (upstream of our trout fishing section on the Guadalupe) is 11 feet below full pool. Isn't that bad compared to Lake Travis outside Austin. The Colorado River system is being hit the hardest by our drought. Travis is 55 feet below full (34% capacity). We're keeping our fingers crossed for a wet spring. Even with those factors, fishing has been very good on the Guadalupe for Rainbow Trout and on the Colorado for bass. Warm trends produce consistent feeding activity and cold fronts can make it more difficult to find active fish. Spring is on the way!

Hosted the Gordy family at the Devils River. Russel, Sean, Garret and Jay Arnold found some good topwater fishing and several trophy smallmouth. Garrett caught his 5 lb smallie with a flawless 90 ft cast that most guides would miss. From on top of a tall rock with trees in the backcast. A really fun group with some cool toys too (Eurocopter). On the final day Sean landed a 5-6 lb smallmouth as the helicopter flew over our heads to return them to Del Rio. Water is lower than normal, but the fish are still there! Kayak and canoe trips would be very difficult at this level, but our private access really makes life easier. This is such an amazing place. Every time we go, it seems more unique. We're fortunate to have access to such a treasure.

Returning from another summer at The Reef Fly Shop and North Platte Lodge in Alcova, WY. Had a blast this season! Great friends, guests and excellent fishing. Looking forward to this upcoming fall in Texas. The bass fishing can be very good this time of year. The fish will be more active during mid day with cooler water temps coming. The Guadalupe River will be stocked again around thanksgiving and hopefully it will fish like it has in the last few years. This is a beautiful time of year in the Hill Country. Mild daytime temps and hungry fish trying to pack on some pounds before winter! Come get some of the action!!!!

Spring bass fishing on the lower Colorado River has been great! Lots of beautiful sunny days, mild temps and great fishing. I feel so lucky to have such a phenomenal fishery virtually in the backyard. Topwater flies are the most exciting and effective way to catch Largemouth and Guadalupe bass with the right conditions (which we've had lots of). A few specific zones on the Colorado River produced unbelievable sight fishing with surface patterns. Almost every fish caught in these areas were visible and responded to good casts with the aggression we all dream about. The Devil's River fished as always, technical and amazing. Stay tuned for video footage of the season.

The Guadalupe season is still here. Lots of bugs with the warmer days we've had. Been pleasantly surprised finding very little fishing pressure and anglers on the water lately. For one of the busiest times of the year, it has been very slow as far as other people and boats. We can thank the cold mornings for keeping the tubers at bay. Now is the last time to get on the Guad for this season, college students in tubes will start stacking up by the hundreds and the trout won't be crazy about it. As we move toward spring, the Colorado River is the main focus. The fish should begin to look for surface meals, and we will be there to give them some!!! Very excited about this upcoming season of bass fishing. A new boat on the way, and lots of hungry fish waking up from winter and fattening up after the spawn. The river is in great condition even with low water conditions. The floods in late October 2013 gave the riverbed a much needed cleaning. In some areas, it looks better than I've ever seen it. Hopefully we still get some more much needed moisture in the hill country, but there is a bright side. Went to the Devil's River 3/8-3/10 to the south state natural area and also some new property upstream. Weather was beautiful, river had a slight color to it from recent rain. That actually helped. Clarity was still good, but we could get a little closer to some of those spooky fish that can see you from 100 yards away. Great trip!
