"I discovered Greg Smith and River Hills Outfitters online. I took a chance among the masses. In hindsight, it was a wise decision. He is prompt, prepared and knowledgeable about everything involved in having a great day flyfishing. He was kind and courteous as well. He spent time and was patient making sure my son had fun and was ready to reel in his first fish on a flyrod and his first trout (which coincidentally was a 23 inch rainbow). This allowed me to enjoy my time fishing just a little bit more. I got see my son improve with each passing hour. We had such a great trip, 6 months later we decided to involve my father to join Greg and his colleague Harrison Nash on the North Platte River in Wyoming through the Reef Flyshop. It was quite a special treat to observe my son and father have such a good time flyfishing and catching trout together. Again, Greg was able to provide a quality experience on one of the most beautiful rivers I have been on. Our third trip in almost a year span, all three of us decided to float the Guadalupe together. Not only did we catch quite a few trout, we set a few family records. My father caught an beautifully orange and yellow illusive Palomino trout and I caught the largest trout I have ever caught...27" rainbow. "Greg Smith and I fished for 5 days in early April on the Colorado River East of Austin, I was hoping to have some decent days and hopefully learn a lot about bass fishing. Well I will not bore you with the minutia, but I had a fantastic trip and it was done with top water flies (incredible action). A huge number of fish were caught with many in the 4 to 6 pound range. Biggest landed was over 8 pounds, a true hog for this river. The big question was why! Well obviously the fish were feeding. But it was more than that, especially with a client that was not a bass fishermen. The answer is simply...Greg Smith. Number one he ties some unbelievable flies, the ones we used were designed to target big fish, and they did their job. He knows the river like the back of his hand, and I did not spend a lot of time fishing unproductive waters. He is a stickler about technique and busted his butt getting me into bass mode and not trout mode. That resulted in me having one day of about 60 fish landed and with probably over a hundred strikes. He works hard for you on the river both with oars and by changing flies as needed. He is patient with all of the snagged flies that occur when you are trying to hit those special holes behind the log and under the tree limb. So what else do you need to know? Go fishing with Greg if you ever have the chance. BTW, I have already scheduled a trip with him in Wyoming this summer and another 5 days of bass fishing next year." - Ron Phillips
